Spa Etiquette & Useful Info

General FAQ’s

  • For facials, we suggest that you book a one hour Keldara Customized Facial. Our professional Estheticians will analyze and recommend a skincare treatment for your specific skin type and condition. If you are not sure you would enjoy a 60 minute treatment, we suggest booking the Mini-Facial which is 30 minutes. The Mini-Facial is a nice introduction to facials.

For massage, we suggest booking a 60 minute Relaxation massage. It is the most popular massage offered. Should you want specific work done, we suggest a 60 minute Combo or Deep Tissue massage.

For pedicures, we suggest you book the classic pedicure. It is a results-oriented pedicure focusing on improving the condition of your nails and skin.

  • Peak hours are often late afternoons, evenings and weekends (especially Saturdays). We recommend you book as far in advance as possible in order to ensure getting the particular time, day, and service provider you want. We strongly recommend pre-booking your next appointment before you leave.

  • We strongly recommend leaving your jewelry at home. We regret that we cannot be responsible for loss or damage to any valuables. We are able to provide a secure locker, but be mindful not to leave your valuables behind if you choose to take them into your treatment.

  • We will do our best to modify aspects of your treatment to suit your preferences: amount of lighting, music decibel, room temperature, and whether or not you choose to have a conversation or enjoy the treatment in silence. If you prefer the service provider to use a deeper pressure or ease up on the pressure, let him or her know. Also, feel free to ask questions. Your service provider will appreciate knowing your thoughts and clarifying any issues you may have. If any part of your experience is unsatisfactory, first tell the service provider. If the response isn’t helpful, ask to speak to a supervisor.

  • You cannot receive any type of massage until 14 weeks pregnant, which then you can book our Prenatal Massage Service. When you arrive for your appointment, please inform your service provider of any medical conditions that you may have. Some treatments may not be able to be performed due to medical conditions. If you have questions, please call us at 781-251-6600 ext. 222 and the Salon and Director will handle your questions with the utmost confidentiality.

  • We have a few therapists on staff trained to provide services for guests who are undergoing these treatments. However, we request that the client bring a doctor’s note. Also, we want to be sure to book our clients with the correct therapists. Not all of our therapists are trained in this area.

  • Service providers are well trained in the “art of draping” which means that they keep you covered and comfortable at all times except for the area of the body they are working on. Before the service begins, the service provider will leave the treatment room while you get under the sheet for a facial, body treatment or massage. At the conclusion of the service, the therapist will leave the room for you to change and wait for you outside. You may dress down to your comfort level, completely undressing is not necessary. During a facial service, you are given a strapless gown to wear.

  • We recommend avoiding the sun on the day of treatment and, in some cases, the day after. And always wear sun protection!

  • We suggest not eating for at least an hour before a treatment, and avoid the consumption of alcohol on the day of a treatment. Drink plenty of water before and afterward, especially after a massage, body treatment or body wrap.

  • The spa must be as quiet as possible to create a tranquil and relaxing environment for spa services. Therefore, we require cell phones to be switched to silent before entering the spa.

  • For body treatments, you will be provided a robe and disposable underwear for your treatment. Spa Therapists are trained in proper draping techniques which means you will not be exposed during the treatment. Also, the Spa Therapist will walk you through most of the steps prior to your body treatment or body wrap so that you can fully relax and enjoy your service.

  • As a Spa patron, you are welcome to stay at the Spa as long as you like. Enjoy the Ladies Lounge, have some tea, linger to your heart’s desire… just make sure to allow enough time before and after your treatment to change clothes and enjoy any of our amenities.

Please arrive to your spa appointment 15 minutes prior to the start time.

  • Please let us know of any preferences you may have when you book your appointment.

  • In the Spa, silence can be golden and provide a relaxing and meditative atmosphere. If you feel like chatting, we’ll chat. But if you want to escape in silence, we wholeheartedly support you!

  • Your Spa treatment fee does not include gratuities. Between 15 and 20 percent for each person who gave you a service is customary, but you may of course leave more or less, depending on the quality of the service. Gratuities are accepted in forms of cash (handed directly to the service provider) and through a credit card (which will be added directly in to the check of the service provider).

Massage Policies & Procedures

It is our intention to provide our guests with a professional and therapeutic massage. The following policies and procedures serve as a guide for first-time and regular massage guests of Keldara Salon and Spa.

At Keldara, we understand that unanticipated events occur in everyone’s life. Unforeseen events such as car problems, traffic considerations, business meetings, and project deadlines, are just a few reasons why one might consider canceling a massage appointment.

In our commitment to provide a unique and outstanding massage experience to all of our clients and out of consideration for our therapists’ time, we have adopted the following policies:

Arrival to your massage

Arrive for your appointment 15 minutes prior to the scheduled starting time. This allows you the time to fill out the appropriate client form (new clients), change and prepare for the service. All massages have a specific time schedule and early arrival allows for a relaxed and unhurried experience.

If late arrival is inevitable, your service(s) may be shortened in order to keep on schedule. The original treatment time will be charged.

Spa appointment information

A credit card is required to reserve all spa appointments. Cancellations made less than 24 hours before the scheduled appointment time will be charged half price of all services booked. No shows, appointments cancelled upon arrival, and appointments cancelled within less than an hour of the scheduled appointment time will be charged in full for all services booked.

LATE ARRIVAL POLICy

Please call us at 781-251-6600 if you’re running late. In order to remain on schedule for all our clients, we may shorten your service time if you are late for your appointment. The regular service price will apply.

Massage Policies

  • Massage services with Damien are an additional $15 to the base price of the massage menu.

  • Prior to each massage session, the treatment plan will be discussed with you. At your first visit with us you will receive a copy of the massage therapy policies and will be asked to sign the consent stating that you have read the information, understand it, and agree to comply with the professional massage therapy policies and procedures. Clients who we have not seen for at least a year will also be asked to fill out this form.

    • Keldara Massage therapists are licensed professionals and held to the highest standards of the American Massage Therapy Association.

    • Massage Therapy is a profession in which the practitioner applies manual techniques, and may apply adjunctive therapies, with the intention of positively affecting the health and well-being of the client.

    • Massage Therapists do not diagnose or prescribe for medical conditions nor are they allowed to provide treatment for a specific condition without a doctor’s supervision. The massage therapist is required to refer you for diagnosis and to follow the recommendations of your physician.

    • Keldara Massage Therapists are happy to adjust pressure, temperature, musical volume, work longer on an area or move on if you request it.

    • The client may choose to: leave on as much clothing as needed for comfort, refuse any massage methods, stop massage at any time and is free to leave; the therapy door is never locked.

    • The client will always be modestly draped. Only the area being massaged will be undraped. The clients will be kept informed of the area to be massaged.

    • Requests for sexual activity will not be tolerated, will be viewed as solicitation, and reported to the proper authorities under the guidelines of the massage therapy policies and procedures. The client will not be rescheduled if this occurs.

    • The breast and genital area will not be massaged under any circumstances. Also, low back, hip & gluteal area will be massaged only with permission and can be worked through the draping if requested.

    • We are happy to listen to your conversation and share our professional expertise. We prefer to not discuss topics of a political, private or sexual nature.

    • It is the responsibility of the client to keep the massage therapist informed of any medical treatment currently being taken, and to provide written permission from the physician, chiropractor, physical therapist, etc., that the massage may be continued.

    • The client must also keep the massage therapist informed of any changes in health conditions.
